Around 12:45 p.m. on Monday Oct 13th 2014, the driver was heading eastbound on I-490, exiting 390 North when he lost control of his tractor-trailer. The truck flipped on it’s side and the cab went over the guardrail.
Multiple departments worked to rescue the man from the cab. He was freed shortly after 2:30 p.m.
Emergency crews took the driver to a nearby hospital, and authorities said he suffered some injuries but is expected to be OK.
“If that tractor section and/or that trailer section been forward more, we would have had a catastrophic event,” said Gates Fire Chief Jim Harrington.
DOT inspectors had spent the evening investigating if there was structural damage to the ramp.
Police are still advising motorists to use caution when driving through the stretch of highway.
No word yet when the final repairs to the bridge will be made.
