The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) joins the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and others to encourage the fire and EMS community to recognize Crash Responder Safety Week (CRSW), observed this year, November 8-14.
Emergency responders risk injury and even death by passing vehicles when responding to a roadside emergency. CRSW has as its primary goal teaching emergency responders, drivers, and passengers how to play their part in ensuring safe responses at roadway incident scenes.
The IAFC will take advantage of CRSW to raise awareness—on the part of agencies, providers, and the public—about the risk of secondary incidents and how they increase the longer responders must remain at the scene.
