This weeks training:
SAFETY STAND DOWN- REBUILD REHAB
Firefighters train on many things throughout the year. Each year at times we stand down from our regular rigorous schedule to focus on safety or other important topics. This year June 20-26 Firefighters from around the country are participating in a Safety Stand-Down. The topic is Rebuild Rehab. Rehab is the break firefighters take during an event that requires multiple evolutions of work. Rehab is the break a firefighter takes, just like when your favorite sports player might take a break mid-game.
This theme focuses on the critical importance of physical and psychological rehab to mitigate the physiological and mental impacts of firefighting. The goal is to make sure everyone is ready to respond to the next emergency. The expectation is that departments will re-visit rehab procedures to ensure that post-incident protocol covers all areas of health and safety, including cardiac, nutrition, exposure, psychological, hydration, and heat stress.
