As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the NYS Fire Academy was forced to postpone its recruit firefighter training program. Numerous recruit firefighters from departments within Monroe County were unable to complete their required training to be certified as NYS firefighters.

worked to quickly develop a training program that allowed the recruits to complete their training right here in Monroe County.
This academy is the first time that members of multiple Monroe County Departments were trained locally together outside of the City of Rochester fire academy.
The program ran for approximately 7 weeks with recruits receiving training in the following various areas that they need to complete to finish their required training.
-Vehicle Rescue
-Hazardous Materials
-Apparatus Operator -Pump
-Engine Company Operations
-Truck (Ladder) Company Operations
-Apparatus Operator -Aerial
In addition to the courses, mentioned recruits will receive instruction in building codes, building construction, and other disciplines along with physical fitness training.
The program was led by RRFD Captain Quill and Gates Fire District Lieutenant Comenale. They had assistance from multiple instructors from all of the participating departments.
We appreciate the support shown by the administration and others from the participating departments and Monroe County. Your help allowed this to happen.
Congratulations to the recruits that graduated last night from their academy. We wish you a long, healthy, and safe career.
