This morning at 08:40 while operating at the scene of a motor vehicle accident on Rt.490, our Engine was struck by another vehicle while parked protecting the vehicle occupants and firefighters at the emergency scene. Thankfully, no one was injured in this incident. The New York State Police and the Town of Gates Police are investigating the accident.
New York State Move Over Law requires drivers to move over and slow down for emergency and maintenance vehicles operating on scenes and in roadways. We’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that Firefighters, EMT’s and Paramedics, Police Officers, roadside workers, tow truck operators, and other workers in roadways are trying to help others. Not yielding the right of way or moving over for any of these vehicles puts everyone working on the roadway at risk for injury or death.
