On Saturday, August 27, 2011 the eastern part of New York State was preparing for Hurricane Irene. Part of this preparation was to deploy the Western New York Emergency Management Assistant Team (EMAT). This team consists of Fire Officers, Law Enforcement personnel, and Emergency Management personnel from a 10 county Western New York region.
On August 28, Chief Jim Harrington along with additional personnel from Monroe, Genesee, and Erie counties responded to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Albany to assist with managing the thousand of resources that were being sent to the region.
This is just one additional way that the Gates Fire District continues to provide service to New York State in times of need.
