SMOKE ALARM PROGRAM

Do you have a working smoke alarm in your home?  A smoke alarm is the first line of defense to protect your family in the event of a fire. Most serious and fatal fires happen during the night and your family needs to be prepared. Did you know, according to the United States Fire Administration, smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years?  Batteries should also be changed every time we change the clocks with Daylight Savings Time.

The Gates Fire District and the Gates-Chili Fire Department want to keep our community safe. If you are in need of a smoke alarm, please contact us at  (585) 426-2720; and we will provide you with up to three smoke alarms for your home and install them free of charge. That’s right, they will be provided to you free of charge!

In addition, we will also check to ensure you have a working carbon monoxide alarm. It is now a law in New York State all homes must have a carbon monoxide alarm. Carbon monoxide is a poisonous, odorless, toxic gas that can cause severe injury and even result in death in some cases. Carbon monoxide alarms should be replaced every 7 years.

Please contact our Fire Prevention Officer, Joe Manuse, and he will set up an appointment to visit your home, check your alarms, and replace any outdated or non-working equipment.
