“Truck Week” found the recruits of the MCRTP at Valicias on Long Pond Rd utilizing a vacant building for training. During this week, amongst other things, the recruits learn the proper techniques of vertical ventilation (cutting a hole in the roof). During a fire, vertical ventilation assists the crews working inside of a building with venting out super heated smoke and gases produced from the fire. This in turn, will help the crews inside extinguish the fire quicker.
Occasionally, the fire district gets use of buildings that are set to be torn down. We were fortunate enough to have this opportunity to use this building during the training program.
