This morning, crews responded to assist the Chili Fire Department with a house fire at 9 Charmaine Drive. The fire was extinguished minutes after crews arrived on scene thanks to the incredible teamwork of the firefighters and the neighbor that kept the fire hydrant clear of snow and ice.
A fire hydrant covered with snow and ice can delay responders up to 5 minutes or more. The 5 minutes it takes for responders to locate, dig out, de-ice , and attempt to retrieve water from a snow covered fire hydrant can mean the difference between minor fire damage and total loss of a home.
HELP US, HELP YOU! KEEP YOUR FIRE HYDRANTS CLEAR OF SNOW AND ICE!
