I have been a resident of the Town of Gates since 1968 after moving from the 19th Ward in the City of Rochester. During the past 43 years, I have been very active in our community serving with all of our public safety agencies. My first contact with the fire department was in 1971 when I joined the Gates Fire Explorers program and ending with the rank of Chief in 1973. In 1974 I joined the Gates-Chili Volunteer Fire Department and held numerous ranks until I resigned in 2005 to take my position as the full-time Fire Chief. In 1986 I returned to the Line Officers ranks and held the positions of Captain, Battalion Chief, Asst. Chief and finished in 1993 as the Volunteer Fire Chief. During this time, I also served as Deputy Fire Marshall for the Town of Gates conducting fire inspections of public assembly properties in our community. In addition I worked for the State of New York on a part-time basis as a fire instructor for 16 years training thousands of firefighters throughout Monroe County. My career path in the fire service began in 1976 when I was appointed a dispatcher for the Gates Fire District. I worked at the Gates Fire District from 1976 until 1981 when I left to take a position with the Insurance Service Office (ISO). In 1999, I took a position with Monroe Community College (MCC) as the program coordinator for fire protection systems at their new Public Safety Training Facility on Scottsville Rd. In July of 2005, I was appointed by the Board of Fire Commissioners of the Gates Fire District as the first Civil Service, Career Fire Chief and have served in this position since then. I currently hold a Bachelors of Science Degree in Fire Service Administration from Empire State College. I am an adjunct instructor with Monroe Community College, teaching in their Fire Protection Technology program. I have also taught at the New York State Fire Academy and the National Fire Academy as an adjunct instructor. I reside in town of Gates with my wife Donna, and have two children. My daughter Tracy is currently serving in the United States Air Force in Texas and my son Patrick will be graduating this year at Gates-Chili High School. I encourage everyone in our community to partake in any of the activities we offer to our community over the course of the year. Feel free to stop in at any of our fire stations to assist you with your questions or concerns.
