Help Wanted!
By Past Asst. Chief Dan Everett

Have you ever thought of becoming a firefighter?

Well if you have the Gates-Chili Fire Department needs you!

Who are we?

The Gates-Chili Fire Department covers all of the town of Gates and part of the Town of Chili and answered about 2400 calls for help last year. Equipment is located at three different fire stations and firefighters are assigned to the station closest to where they live.

Station #1 (headquarters) is located at 2355 Chili Avenue

Station #2, 2215 Long Pond Road

Station #3 at 22 Coldwater Road.

What does it take to become a volunteer firefighter?

  • You must have a desire to aid your community
  • You must be at least 18 years old.
  • You must live within the Gates Fire District
  • You must be able to pass a physical exam (provided by the fire district)

That’s It! We will provide you with the rest!

Once you become a firefighter we will provide you with the equipment and training needed to help. All firefighters must complete a basic firefighting training class provided by the County of Monroe.  Many choose to also seek emergency medical training.

Once you are in and trained, members are expected to respond to a minimum of 10% of their station's alarms (usually about 80-90 calls a year) and 12 training sessions. Each station trains twice a month, plus there are numerous special training drills that are available to members.

That’s It!

Do you think you have what it takes?

Please contact us... even if you just have a few questions... call headquarters at 426-2720.
