Chief Harrington took this opportunity to explain the circumstances which brought us together this evening for the swearing in of four new Civil Service Career Firefighters.  It was due to the funding received by the SAFER (Staffing Adequate Firefighter Emergency Response) Grant which was made possible in part due to the lobbying in Washington D.C. last April.  After receiving the notification that the Gates Fire District was chosen to receive this grant, a Committee was formed.  This Committee went through an extensive process of evaluating the candidates and the results are the firefighters here this evening.

Congratulations were offered to the newly sworn in Civil Service Firefighters

as well as to the Gates Fire District for being the only District in New York State to

receive the SAFER grant for funding additional firefighters.
